Scampston Walled Garden, Malton, YO17 8NG

Scampston Walled Garden is just 4 miles from Malton and is easily accessible from the A64 which connects Leeds, York and the Yorkshire Coast.

Please note the site is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays throughout the season (excluding Bank Holiday Mondays)

Driving here

Scampston lies just north of the A64, so is easy to reach if you are driving. Drivers with Sat Navs can find it with our postcode YO17 8NG. You will find the gardens well sign posted from the A64.

From Leeds/York/Malton:

Follow the A64 toward Scarborough, bypassing Malton. Half a mile after the traffic lights in Rillington take the left turn signed Scampston Only and follow signs to the Walled Garden.

From Scarborough:

Follow the A64 towards York passing Heslerton and the turning to Yedingham and Snainton. Half a mile after crossing Scampston Bridge (you get a glimpse of the Hall on your right) take the next right signed Scampston Only and follow signs to the Walled Garden.

From Hull/Beverley:

Follow the B1248 to Malton and join the A64 towards Scarborough. Half a mile after the traffic lights in Rillington take the left turn signed Scampston Only and follow signs to the Walled Garden.

From Whitby/Pickering:

Follow the A169 to the Malton bypass and join the A64 towards Scarborough. Half a mile after the traffic lights in Rillington take the left turn signed Scampston Only and follow signs to the Walled Garden.

Train

There is a regular train service to Malton station. Malton is on the Liverpool – Scarborough line, with a direct train service to Leeds and York.

Alternatively, please see below for scenic cycle routes from Malton station to Scampston, varying in length from 6 miles to 12 miles.

Bus

Yorkshire Coastliner bus services 843 and 845 pass within 1km of the gate, exit the bus after the village of Rillington as Scampston Land End.

Cycling here

Whilst Scampston lies just to the north of the A64, there are plenty of routes from Malton station, or further afield which allow you to avoid busy roads and to take in spectacular scenery.

Alternatively there is a cycle route which runs parallel to the A64, offering a safe but more direct route.

For a pleasant, family friendly cycle we would recommend taking the Wolds Way Cycle route. If joining in Malton, follow Langton Road from the station, and join the route on Langley Drive. Leave the cycle route at Settrington and follow signs for Scagglethorpe. At Scagglethorpe join the A64 cycle path towards Rillington. After passing the village centre and the Coach & Horses pub, take a left hand turning up Sands Lane. You will then be able to follow signs to Scampston Walled Garden.

Walking here

Scampston is within three miles of the Centenary Way, for walkers who fancy a cup of tea! Leave the route at Scagglethorpe and head to Scampston via Thorpe Bassett and Rillington.

Scampston is well connected with footpaths and ideally situated for walkers between the Wolds and the Moors, offering plenty of potential for incorporating a visit into a longer walk.
